Not sure whoes idea it was, either Kurt or Capt, but this morning I removed the nut that was acting like a spacer on the bracket holding the alternator/compressor. Then I cinched the other nut back down and (after a quick test drive on the highway) I am free from the whine of a rubbing belt.
