Front locker question

Looking for ideas of what front locker to drop in to my 27 spline dana 30 which currently has a Detroit Truetrac Limited Slip. Would I have to change the carrier back to the original open set-up for the likes of an OX locker?

What do you run and what do you like or dislike?

Ox Locker all the way

An OX locker is a full case locker. A Lockright (commonly called a "lunch box" locker) uses an open case.

You would not be able to install a Lockright into your Truetrac.

If you're going to replace the chuck, I recommend the good 'ol Detroit Locker. That's what I'll get when my front Lockright blows up (again). I thought about one of those electric lockers too as I run front drive flanges.

Personally, I like my OX.
When it's on, it's full lock 100% spool (sucks to steer, but it doesn't unload on hill climbs).

What's so bad about your TruTrac?

Lockrights shouldn't be an issue on the street if he didn't have hubs. I've always run a Lockright up front, and never had any trouble in corners or if I flat tow.

I liked my lockrite in my old d30. Love the rubi locker in the D44 I put in front at the start of the season. Selectable is a great option as it makes life on the road easier and in the woods you are more maneuverable... Dave Coy runs Aussie and seems to have worked them hard without issues..

When my factory Rubi front locker blew on the Ian run I talked to Dominic about options. FWIW, He tried to steer me away from OX as they seem to be having troubles right now. He is not convinced that they will be around much longer.

John, the reason for my inquiry is that when faced with a big rock on one side and a slick rock on the other my rig has trouble. The limited slip is great when there is traction to be had ie MOAB, but out on the moss/mud/wet granite, having that locker would make a big difference. My thoughts are I would have more of a controlled walking over obstacles rather than throttle over them and bounce how knows where...

At any rate the rock hard cage is the first on the list, then... you all know the rest!

Mitchell Diff could build you a nice one with CJ outers and you could just swap your knuckles/brakes over.

Financial trouble, not a quality issue. Dom said they are only building to order now.
