Thoughts on U bolt flip

Unread post by IronTortoise »

I have been getting hung up a bit too much, and have been looking more closely at the underside of my 94 YJ. I have the boxed style u-bolt skid plates and while they do a good job of protecting the ends of the u-bolts they tend to hang up on things more than I would like. I am getting ready to swap an 8.8 in place of my Dana 35 and have been looking at ways to smooth out the undercarriage. I am thinking a u-bolt flip might be the way to go something like what dynatrac makes. I also want to get anything else out of the way like shock mounts protruding below the axle tube and sway bar end links. I plan on doing the same for my stock Dana 30 in the front at the same time. Thoughts or suggestions?

I run a Dynatrac flip in the front and redrilled stock rears (axle moved back). At some point I'll be making rears that emulate the front as well. The Dynatrac kit is a little bit $. I'm a cheap bastid.

Sway bar on a YJ? Toss that biatch away....YJ's run perfectly fine without a sway bar.

Interesting,I plan on ditching the rear track bar. I hadn't thought about ditching the sway bar, but perhaps I should at this point. No more dis-connecting and re-connecting. My rig is no longer my daily driver and sees limited highway time.

How about the shock mounts. They protrude downward below the plane of the axle tube. I have a thought of cutting them off and re-attaching them so that they are level with the bottom of the axle tube. I figure with my lift it might work. Any problems with the geometry anyone can think of?

Toss the track bars too.
More excessive things that add weight and limit articulation off road,
