rear axle mounts

Unread post by Baseshakers »

so instead of gusseting the repaired stock ones i'm thinking about this, thoughts? http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.m ... ode=BP-B_S

in combination with the trackbar mount i should be good to go: http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.m ... ode=BP-B_S

i should probably gusset even these brackets but it's sure to be better than what i have.

I've heard mixed reviews about Rusty's stuff. Some people swear by it, others don't like it.
Last time I discussed it with Lou, he said he didn't like Rusty's stuff because he'd seen too many fit & finish issues.
I've never heard any complaints about Genright

Oh On my 8.8 I used all RE Brackets to mount the CAs trac bar and shocks They were 3/8 or 1/4 in thick brackets I have not broke them yet That was 3 years ago they are still 100% My 2 choices would be RE or genright

big thank you to kurt for all the help! 16 hours of wrenching later the jeep has strong, gusseted rear axle mounts, a new adjustable rear trac bar, custom rear anti rock install, a new rear shock and a realigned rear end. it is SO much happier than it was on the way back from rausch...

it was! planning on outboarding soon so it wasn't worth fixing both, but the right rear was useless.

here's an example of the new brackets...

yeah, it was brutal. started after the meeting and worked until 8ish with Kurt. Then worked 12-12 on Sunday with breaks for a snack and dinner. it took FOREVER.

Did you have to weld up the new brackets or did they come pre welded and ready for attachment?

Did you also replace the lower brackets?

the control arm brackets were simply bent, but the trackbar bracket was bent and welded. ended up having to cut and re-weld the trackbar bracket anyway since i went with a currie rear trac bar (uses a larger jj at the axle). i welded the trackbar and DS control arm bracket together before welding them to the axle.

i haven't replaced the lower brackets. not sure if i just want to gusset those or replace them completely...
