Tires. What to buy
I will be purchasing some tires in the next couple of weeks. I am going with either 33x12.50 or 32x11.50. My question is what are good all around tires? I am not to concerned with comfort on the street as this is not a daily driver. I would like something pretty aggressive that performs well in the New england woods (also something that works well in snow). I was looking at the goodyear MTR's but am unsure if they are any good? There is just so many to chose and would apreciate some input from some people with more wheeling experiance in the New England woods. (most of my wheeling was done in Florida in the mud and sand)

Best thing to do is stop by and see Lou at Elias 4WD Center
or Dom at Dominicks Auto & Jeep.

You should go to the Rally next weekend, see what others are running and you can talk to Lou from Elias, he'll have a booth there.Kurt wrote:Best thing to do is stop by and see Lou at Elias 4WD Center

I really like my Goodyear mtr with kevlar. They work great in and off road, reasonable road noise but great traction

I am running 32's GoodYear MTR w/kevlar and love the traction. I don't see myself buying another brand/make for my next set.Northshore Jeeper wrote: 33x12.50 or 32x11.50. I was looking at the goodyear MTR's but am unsure if they are any good?

I've heard this from several people and am thinking about these myself in the 37" or 40 " flavor for my next set.Voodoo Chile wrote:I really like my Goodyear mtr with kevlar. They work great in and off road, reasonable road noise but great traction

If you take a non Jeep, you can't park it in the rally, you have to park across the street. Also the rock garden is for Jeeps only.Northshore Jeeper wrote:Great! I just might do that. I dont know if I will make it in the Xj but I might take the daily driver down. (AKA not a jeep LOL)
I love my tires, I have Kumos, they are ok on the street and ROCK on the trail. I got them in March so I don't know about snow. June 09 I did a trail and had trouble on a rock, June 10, same trail same rock and both times it was rainy, I rocked it. I'm pretty sure my skill went up, but the tires helped.

M-I-C...K-E-Y....
not mouse, Claws.
My 38x15.5" Baja Claws have held up great and have been beaten to absolute death. I only wish they made them in 39.5 or 40's.
The next available sizes in bias are 46" and the tiny 54".
They do make the radials in 33x12.5".

I'm running Super Swamper LTB's but next time around I'm looking at Claws. If I had a DD I'd look at something more tame.... but this only see's the street driving to trailsZAEDOCK wrote:M-I-C...K-E-Y....

I have the D.C. CRUSHER , They are so much quieter on the street than Swampers ! No balance weights at all , and are great up to about 60-65. Had a great review in all the mags. Seam to wear good, and seam to work on the stuff we do. FjR68

I've seen WAAAYYYY too many sidewall slices in Baja Claws once they get some mileage on 'em.Carl McFly wrote:I'm running Super Swamper LTB's but next time around I'm looking at Claws. Yeah, the smaller versions do remind me of the previous gen BFG Mud in that respect. The bigger sizes offer more sidewall plies.fortyfour wrote:I've seen WAAAYYYY too many sidewall slices in Baja Claws once they get some mileage on 'em.
Carl, buy my 38's....you know you want them.

Re: Tires. What to buy
All the tires I had the MTRS are the best allaround tire for road + rocks + mud
For off road Nothing comes close to Swampers IROKs bias ply 36x13.5x17
For a 36in tire they are 1 1/2 inchs taller than my 35in MTR mounted on the jeep both with 25 psi in them
