Fall Crawl 2010 pictures

Had a fantastic time at the NEA fall crawl this weekend. Got up there around 6 on Friday and got home around 2:30pm today. Had Good groups both days and we all had a pretty darn good time, It was great camping with you all again.

Saturday Ron Frost was my guide and Shaw Legassy a former Baystate Jeeper was our gunner. Got to go out with Mike and Evelyn. As far as I know the only real carnage for the day was a side wall on Eve's Jeep which allowed her the chance to test and use her winch. A quick plug to the side wall and we were back on the way. Mike and Mark were living large in their Unimog and I think the biigest issue for them was the low hanging fruit. :D Unfortuantely my camera was set to low res  but here as some of my pics.

That night we had a nice BBQ dinner and raffle, they named the new Shane Beard winner
(dont recall the name) and a few club members won some prizes. :D

The next morning Eve, Dave, Tim,and I woke at the crack of dawn (6:01am) to sign up for new trails hoping to wheel on site, but we were scooped by a crew that i'm pretty sure partied right up to the sign up ( I heard them going strong at 3am when I brought my youngest to the potty.) So we got to go to an old Mike Myers movie instead along with Kurt and Curtis.

I missed the call for rolling and litterally almost ran into Lou on the way out trying to catch up. So Lou joined us on the trail for the day. Lou threw a cap on a u-joint and someone (not sure it was our group or a more extreme one) blew a drive shaft up. there was defiantly some body damage to a few rigs with a heavily modifed XJ toasted their rear bumper. There were a number of FTR members in our group and they were very entertained by Clarissa being in my rig and her singing ability. Caught a few of them rolling video of her singing along to Taylor Swift. 8-) I somehow ended up as gunner and didnt get to see much of our crew except during the obsticales and toward the end of the day but it was all good.

Lou did great and picked some very nice lines for the day.

We wrapped up and aired up around 1. A few people along with Paul our trail guide went back in to check on a trail repair and the other group. but we decide to call it a day as all the folks from Baystate were still in one piece and we wanted to be together to wheel another day.

Hope you all made it home safe and looking forward to seeing your pictures. I know I'll be sigining up earlier for this next year!

Mary and I had a great weekend up at Gretchen's this weekend both wheeling and swapping stories around the campfire.
We were graced with site # 15 that had a short walk to the showers and a great fire ring. Sitting around the campsite were surprised to hear the local wildlife (Wolfs) howling early in the night Friday, they sounded real close. Later that evening we heard what sounded like a group growling bears that silence the wolfs.

On Saturday we went out on Trail 8 in Swanzey on Saturday with our trail leader Russ from Deep Woods.
Russ lead the group in his 98 XJ (along with his wife and dog ) thru Swanzey.
The bulk of our group were Jeeps with Kurt I representing Baystate.
The trails were so dry the dust was flying everywhere and got on/into everything.
The lack of water made it possible for us to drive up lower and upper Wombus (Spelling??) during this moderate-hard run with minimal damage. We had a jeep actually split his transmission in half behind his Chevy 350 running Dana 60 axles. We also met a couple a couple of jeeps on the trail both suffering from sever trail breakage that were not associated with the fall crawl. They had a YJ break an axle on the rear D35 and were towing (dragging it on the axle housing missing the wheel) when the XJ Tow vehicle snapped of the front control arm causing his driveshaft be damaged and subsequently removed . Once removed the front wheel was driven into his fender making forward travel extremely difficult.
With a little guidance from Kurt they strapped on a tree limb to hold the YJ wheel in place were able drive out in 3 wheel drive. The XJ's front axle was wrapped with chain and was also able to limp out under it's power. At the exit to the trail was a rock ledge guarded by a ledge at the top. The group had fun playing on the ledge, in fact I believe we met Mary O'Sxx.t's brother(listen to video of the yellow Rubi going down the hill ), Frank O' Fxxk ... :D .;
We returned to a delicious catered BBQ dinner and a sampling of various cold beverages round the campfire Saturday PM . The night air was cold but the roaring fire kept most of us warm.... It was late into the evening ( or was it morning) when we heard the local wildlife again . This night we heard a superb performance of the ancient Ooringsna ritual of the local KowaBungi tribe singing in harmony.

On Sunday Jeff , Curtis,Kurt, Lou, myself and another 10 vehicles were led by Paul thru Wayne's world we tackled many challenging hills and obstacles.
We were back in the field were we started around noon and most of us called it day and headed back to Gretchen's to pack up and head home.

I am so jealous you guys got to wheel with Lou AND Paul!!!
My mom got the marshmallows, I told her to toss the chocolate (into my Jeep) and go get pb cups. She thinks I'm crazy.
