Need a color opinion

Unread post by BlackKnight »

I'm going to be installing my new Sport Cage and C Pillar supports over the next few weeks. Problem, I have to re-finish the Smittybuilt Cage because of damage in shipping. So, sanding and painting over the Powder coat. That said, the Rockhard 4x4 C pillar came unpainted so I have to paint that also.

Given that my Jeep is Commando Green, and I know that the paint from the factory is not great coverage on the roll bars, I'm considering painting them all one color and leaving them exposed (removing the padding and OEM Covers, or with some select padding in specific areas, front passenger side and center, rear passenger side and C pillar). And in any case, I'm probably going to start wearing a Protec style helmet as I smacked my head pretty good on the last run and that's with the padding.

Given I'm commando Green, I can't find an exact match in rattlecans without paying a custom shop fill, I'm considering either going all gloss black or maybe going Gloss Red as a contrast (will still work with the military green color I'm thinking). What do you guys think?

Options I'm fielding are: Black or Red, or a mix of OEM green on parts that don't need fresh paint, and black for the newly added parts, or lastly finding a "near to OEM" color and doing a full repaint?

All Black
All Red
OEM and Black on parts added
Or a "Close" to OEM repaint of all parts...

Depends what you want the cage to do. Be really obvious by the color without really even looking or blend in. To show itself, red, white or a bright green could work. Silver, less so, but still will stand out. If you want it to disappear into the background, gloss or flat black. If it were me, I'd be going black for the Jeep. But you should do what you like best.

I've been leaning down the gloss black line and the Satin "Near" OEM color. The red was brought up because I saw it on a YouTuber's Jeep and it looked really good...

Just pulled the trigger on the paint. Going to go "Near" OEM, but will be a satin rather than a glossy, so should still stand out a bit, but not as much as Red, and will flow well with the other painted accessory already in the Jeep (The Tuffy Box and other things.) Rustoleum Satin Oregano is a very near match to the Commando Green, so should look good, and give me the full coverage I'll need because of the not so good OEM paint on the rear corners of the bars...
