I recently upgraded my winch. The old one worked fine but was difficult to free spool. I avoided it because getting it out to repair it was a huge chore, requiring disassembly of most of the front end. I only did it because I had other repairs I needed to complete that required disassembling half the front end anyway. I figured why not upgrade instead since I have no intentions of doing it again anytime soon. I pulled out the old Quadratec winch and took apart the gear box, cleaned it up, regreased it and reassembled it. It now free spools nice and easy and seems to work just fine. Here is what I have:
Q9000 Winch (purchased around 2014) with synthetic winch line (purchased in 2019, in fair condition)
Upgraded with remote control with switch to prevent accidental operation
Comes with fairlead and other fun accessories
