04 is lighter for sure and a little easier to package if still using coils.

Re: New project selected
How much $ are you looking at to do Junkyard 1 tons, vs Off the shelf built?

Depends if cutting, grinding, and welding yourself or not.

Re: New project selected
Back of an envelope I think it will be just north of 50% of what off the shelf would be assuming I go high end components (e.g. ARB lockers vs. Detroit), but I am doing it just as much for the learning experience.

Re: New project selected
Planning on doing all the work myself except maybe the final welding. Align and tack it up myself and then have "Ken's axle guy" do the final welding. He estimates $600 for the welding work.

Re: New project selected
Cool, I've been thinking about doing 1-ton axels for my JKU, initially wanted the off-shelf drop-ins but saw the cost of a Dana60 front and rear and at ~15K thought differently. Going to Junkyard could also start me up in learning to weld, something else I've wanted to learn for a while.

Re: New project selected
Anyone around Hopkinton, MA have a cherry picker I could borrow for a day?
I stripped everything except the axle shafts off (don't want the oil all over my truck) and we still can't lift it on two people.

I've got one here. I'm about 45 minutes away.
I could shoot down to you most any day with it and help get them unloaded from your truck.
