TJ rear tub cutting/ factory side steps
I'm looking to trim the rear a smidge.
I still have my factory side steps as I'm short.
Would it be too ghetto if I shortened the side steps? I'm not a fan of aftermarket stuff.

Re: TJ rear tub cutting/ factory side steps
Protecting the rocker no matter how short the step is. Will it still protect that door opening. Most of them will have the mount near an end , you have a way to support the new shortened area . FjR68

Re: TJ rear tub cutting/ factory side steps
I recommend Body Armor side steps. When I wheeled hard and kept up with Kurt and Frank they held up to a lot of abuse. They mount under the body/tub and act as a slider and step. Protects the tub all the way from wheel well to wheel well.
Body armor stands behind their product and replaced my first set due to a deficiency in the steel on the outer piece. I was able to resell the sliders when my TJ was toast and got decent money for them and someone got a good deal in return...
I liked them enough that I put the equivalent on my JKU, they first got mounted to the 07 JKU and then when I upgraded to my 12 they went on there. Same deal with frame tie ins and work as a step and body protection.
My dog is a more confident driver with these protecting his flank.

Re: TJ rear tub cutting/ factory side steps
The angle I'm looking at cutting, I'll have to trim my steps by 4-4.5".
I actually like the factory look, hence my front bumper is still stock. Lol

Re: TJ rear tub cutting/ factory side steps
Why cutting the front of wheel well? Rot? I think I have a stock set of steps like yours in the back of the shop. If they are there you can experiment on them instead of yours.

Re: TJ rear tub cutting/ factory side steps
All depends if I get enough courage to cut the tub.
Got a used hood and fenders that I've already cut. I still have my originals.

Re: TJ rear tub cutting/ factory side steps
hope you have cromollys as I started breaking a lot of crap on 35s that was fine on smaller tires... even broke chromo on 35s at RC. I strongly recommend a set of RCVs as those are somewhat bullet proof.... D30 front still? got me curious what you are planning.... and if you are going one ton in front at least.

Re: TJ rear tub cutting/ factory side steps
anyone know the safe limit of D30? I would not go over 37s without gussets and tubing the axle. may want a truss too. At that point it make sense to get a d60 or something like that. then start talking to The Kurt or Mark...

wait for someone else to confirm it, but unless the new D44 is BUILT go straight to a D60. 35s is the relative limit for a D44 and what you will put into a 44 to make it live with 37s or larger it will be much cheaper to do the first time in a D60. That was the next step for me until my TJ was raped tortured and left for dead.
I actually owned a sought after f150 snowfighter Kingpin 1978 D60 that was going under my green Jeepster. Locked, trussed and set up for hydro, I paid 1K for it and it was set up for a TJ suspension. It may be for sale again as I sold it back to the guy that built it initially then sold it to another guy who sold it to me before selling it back to him.
