Coils and Plugs?

Unread post by King Hap »

Whats up guys!!!!! Pumped for the new season!!!!!

Here is a question,
The computer says I need a new plug and coil for my Jeep. Now, Should I not replace them all? I have 127,000. The dealer said I only need 1?

(And the cost at the Dealerships seemed a little crazy also?)

So, would you guys just do the 1? or Like I was thinking, replace them all?

Thanks for any Feedback,
King Hap

Looks like there is a single coil for the JK 3.8L engine. I would replace the coil, and All the spark plugs. Plugs are cheap and it'll be worth taking care of all of them at once, especially if you haven't done them in a while.

Dealership costs are usually the highest around, I'd find a local shop, or friend, garage, or e-z up to do these. Should be a simple repair. Plugs should be a double platinum, somewhere around $4 a piece, and a coil at pepboys will be about $55.
2005 TJ, built and beat accordingly

You can do OE plugs, coil and wires from Amazon for about $70. In my experience the 3.8 does not do will with Bosch plugs, throws misfire codes not long after installation. Champion RE14PLP5 plugs seem to work well. Dan is right, there is a single coil pack ( drivers side top of engine) its a pretty easy swap. Toughest plug is the passenger side closest to the firewall.
Chrome? Never heard of it.

Given the age I agree on replacing them all. I cannot comment on what your generation of jeep likes but I would do them all.

Thanks for this info. Great to know. No on the Bosch and go on the Champion!
Gonna do a tune up and fluids before the season starts and this really helps. :obscene-drinkingcheers:
