question

Unread post by smileyfish »

ok jeepers i'm looking for some help here. i think my tj is sold, i'm looking at either a cj3a or a cj3b for sure. i have found a few of each out there, some stock (restored) others with v6 or v8 swaps and lightly built for wheeling, in my price range. my intentions for the new to me jeep are light wheeling and cruise night type stuff. they both have cool factors of there own. what would you do?

The 3A and 3B never came with a V6 or V8. Stock 3B's would get the 72 or 75 HP F-134. The 3A's had the L head.

I would get a 3B with the F-head (plus, I like the sound of it). I have the same engine in my '59 CJ5 and it moves around just fine, well, fine in the back yard.

An auto tranny in an early Jeep is a sacrilege.

I like the one from CT. They only thing I would do is replace the tires with NDT's.

I'd go with one which has a vintage Buick odd-fire V6 if it was available... Don't think you really need a V8, but that is just my preference.

Just don't get the electric blue one...

canada does have 2 sweet ones but the border crossing bothers me.

out of the 100 - 125 2a's, 3a's and 3b's for sale in the us about 5 -7 are over $15k, 20 - 25 are $5k-$10k most of the rest are under $5k and need lots of work. the last month or 2 i have seen 6 in new england and only 2-3 are/were drivable now. so i widened my search al the way to calli.

the problem is shipping ads another $1k or more or i fly out 1 way and rent a truck and trailer, either way it's not cheap. i would love to find what i want on the east cost, then it's only a 2 or 3 day trip.

You gonna fly to Visalia and drive it back? I'll go with ya to keep ya from falling asleep! (used to live 30 miles north of Visalia in Sanger). We could stop in Moab on the way.
