I have been fortunate enough that any trail / road side repairs have been done in dry conditions with the exception of a giant puddle we hit in NY with sucked a ton of water into the intake. We were able to dry that out and get sputtering along. I try to do about 90% of my own work/ repairs, including any welding.
Chrome? Never heard of it.
