To winch or not to winch
So as some of you may know I’m very novice to the world off road. However my son and I find enjoyment driving down dirt roads old logging roads and what have you. Now I don’t go through any of the rough stuff but I may someday, would you think it would be beneficial to install a winch right now or should I wait and purchase something more important like a highlift Jack and some traction mats?

Like Mark said, definitely don't wheel alone. If you're just doing dirt roads and a few bumps the winch may be an unnecessary expense at this point. Maybe take the time with a few of the basics, learn how to use them and what your vehicle can and cant do then go from there. Drive, learn, adjust and repeat.....and don't forget to ask questions.
Chrome? Never heard of it.

Hey Alex, welcome to the forum.
There are many people in the club with some beautifully built rigs and don’t have winches. I definitely don’t think you’ll need that right away— and you’ll be surrounded by people with winches. We kind of stagger the Wheeling formation and fit non-winch rigs in between those with winches.
Also— not sure you need a hi-lift with with a renegade. They sit pretty low. I say skids and rock rails would be the best first mods you can do.

If your coming to the 101 you can see some winches and get a quick course on proper winching and strapping. With that said, I wouldnt think it is a top priority if your looking to stay onto the smaller side. I would invest in some good straps in case of something thou, and as always DONT wheel alone.
