Wheel w/ lift

Good morning. Sorry for another question (but your answers have been awesome and wicked helpful). Every lift that I have looked at purchasing has stated that the stock wheels cannot be run unless a spacer is used. I do not desire to use a spacer.

The lift manufacturers also state that if a spacer is not used then a wheel with no more than 4.5" of backspacing is required. I understand that part, but none of the manufacturers mention anything about offset. Anyone have any insight on this? Do I need offset, if so, how many millimeters, positive or negative? My stock 2015 Wrangler wheels are 17x7.5 w/ 6.25" backspace, no mention of offset. Thanks guys.

I found a 17x9 black steel wheel that meets the backspacing requirement but I am just unsure of any offset requirements.

Go by back spacing, ignore offset, that just confuses everything. Spacers are fine as long as you use good ones that are hubcentric

I agree with Randy. skip the offset. I have 17" black steel with I believe 4.75 back space and they work fine and I have bunged them up a few times and just popped the dent out with a very large hammer. Add a little black paint and all sins disappear.

Sometimes you can't just 'ignore' or 'skip' the offset reference. Some wheel manufacturers only describe their wheels in offset, and not backspacing.

Knowing the difference and how they correlate would be wise to learn for any off-roader.

I agree. If you know the backspacing, you can typically figure out the approximate offset. Whenever I'm looking at a new tire/wheel package, I use this site: (link)

It will visually show the difference between the stock wheel/tire package and new wheel/tire package.

There's no argument. It's listed pretty plainly 540CMR6.04(3)

Even if it was legal, there is so much stress in that area. It's not like slapping spacers on a 2200 lb Willys. It's a 5000lb pig. This is an expensive sport. I don't see an issue in buying new rims to get the desired offset. TPMS sensors can be moved to the new wheels.

If someone trusts a piece of aluminum between their rotor and wheel, good luck with that.

BTW, not to scare you guys, but everything posted in the public forum is monitored by the state.
Not that I think they are going to go after spacer users from a web forum, but they monitor site for illegal trail use.
I did a lot of work trying to save a certain trail from overuse and eventual closure over a decade ago. The state officials I dealt with knew when clubs/groups were going to be there.

That was in the days of flip phones and Nextels, so who knows now.
I remember a BSJ member receiving a warning via mail for a picture of his rig on a trail on the forum (he was riding with another club). Big Bro is out there.

In the aspect of things on forums, it also matters for access levels. If they are not a member they are not seeing things in a non members area. Yes Big Brother is out there, but they only can do so much.

Good morning. I think I am ready to purchase my wheel and order set but I wanted to run it by you guys first.
Stock tire is 255/70R17 with a 7.5" wide wheel with a bs of 6.25"
New tire is 35x12.50 on a 17x9 wheel with a bs of 4.25" and offset of -6mm.

In your experience and opinion, any potential rubbing issues? This set up is going with a lift.

I've entered your information and did a quick 2 minute google search for backspacing > offset calculator.

Looks like the new wheel package will stick out an additional 3 inches, and give you an additional 1.5" clearance at the wheel. The bulge of the tire may still end up in the same location.
