Beadlock wheels

Good evening. I typed in Beadlock wheels in the search but it did not list a potential answer for my question.

Is there anyone in the club running 35's without beadlock wheels? Problems? Concerns? Suggestions?

Again, I am mainly interested in wheeling on moderate to slightly tougher than moderate trails.

I have been running 35s without beadlocks for years at 8psi and break everything but the tire beads. Most do not run beadlocks.

I have 35s on my Jeep and have not had any issues in the few times they have been out, running down at around 8psi most times.

Beadlocks aren't great for daily driven jeeps. They are hard to balance and unless you spend the big bucks on Dot approved ones they are technically illegal. A lot more rolling mass too because of weight. I have wheeled with and without them. Never threw a bead either way. While considering rims keep in mind you can fix a bend in a steel rim with a BFH. Bend or crack an aluminum rim your buying a new one.

I don’t run beads but the only ones that are DOT legal that i know of are the Hutchinson Rock Monsters.

I do not run bead locks on my 38's and run them at 3 psi.

I have bead locks . Very cheap home made bead locks. With 35s and no (0) balance weights inside or out without any issue of balance . 15 years behind Monas wheel and only once did I loose a bead . I dont think they should be high on your list of things to do at this point. Going from stock to 35s needs an adjustment in back spacing or you end up using spacers . Just remember every time you make a change , something else wont like it. Keep asking questions , it will save you in the long run. FjR68

Actually, there are several on the market that are DOT approved, Hutchinson however I believe is the only external ring bead lock, as the others are all internal beads or rings.

Thank you guys. I keep forgetting to add that this Jeep can be used as my DD. Good to hear that beadlocks are really not a necessity. You guys run at some serious low psi! I originally thought I wanted to run with aluminum or alloy wheel to make up for tire weight gain, but decided to go against. I found a nice steel black wheel. You are spot on Frank everything I want to do to this Jeep causes me to do something else somewhere on it. And the list grows.....

Each one of my tire/wheel combos weighs about 150 lbs.

I don't feel so bad now I just mount new tires for pumpkin and they weighed in at 115 mounted.
