Replace D30 pinion seal?

Today I noticed that my front pinion seal is leaking. So I was wondering how hard is it to replace?

Found these instructions, wasn't sure if it really this simple.


Raise and support the vehicle safely.
Matchmark and remove the driveshaft.
Rotate the pinion gear three or four times with a torque wrench attached to the yoke nut. Measure the amount of torque necessary to rotate the pinion. Note for installation reference.
Matchmark the pinion yoke and gear for installation reference.
Using a holding tool, remove the pinion yoke nut and washer. Discard the nut.
Punch the seal with a pin punch and pry it from the seal bore.
To install:

Apply gear lubricant to the lip of the replacement seal and install using a seal installation tool.
Install the yoke, noting the reference marks. Tighten just enough to remove the end-play.
On 1984-89 models, install the yoke, washer and a new nut. Tighten the nut to 210 ft. lbs. (285 Nm).
On 1990-98 models, set bearing preload as follows:
The required pinion gear bearing preload torque is 1/2 ft. lbs over the noted release torque as measured above.
Rotate the pinion gear three or four times with a torque wrench attached to the yoke nut. Measure the amount of torque necessary to rotate the pinion.
Using a holding tool and tighten the yoke nut in small increments and remeasure until the specified torque is obtained.
Install the driveshaft. Tighten the strap bolt nuts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
New strap bolts be used whenever the driveshaft is disconnected.

Add lubricant if necessary. Lower vehicle.

pretty sure it's that easy, but I went to Lou and had my D44 seal done. Cost an extra $50 - $75, but I wanted it done right and for me, it was money well spent. When they took it apart there was something in there that wasn't right, some spacer or washer or something had been installed backwards. Lou's guy fixed it and it's been fine for the last year
