Cameras go live for MA Inspection, October 2017

Unread post by Carl McFly »

Starting in October, Mass inspection stations will have five (5) cameras strategically placed in each inspection bay and in the words of one inspector I spoke to today, they're going "hard core" on inspections. My advice? If you're due for a stickah anytime soon and concerned about them doing chin-ups on your exhaust? Get it inspected in September. This gives you a year to let the dust settle

I read one article about lifts (and conversely, dropping your ride, if you like it in the weeds :wtf: ) and this may or may not be accurate but a ride height of +/- 2 inches of the factory height is allowed. Anything outside that is illegal.... supposedly.....

Lets share information, so we're all on the same page . What have you heard, what do you know?

Ive heard Ma. has vehicle inspections ! I KNOW Ct. is broke ! Mona has never been subjected to any kind of inspection strictly due to her age. Yousguys dont have a cutoff date ? These cameras are connected to where ? Or just in the station your being inspected by ?

Here's the rules:
http://www.mass.gov/courts/docs/lawlib/ ... 40cmr4.pdf

And the 4-wheel drive specific calculations for Altered Vehicle Height (540 CMR 6.00) :
http://www.mass.gov/courts/docs/lawlib/ ... 40cmr6.pdf

Original Manufacturer's Height: The highest distance inclusive of the largest tires and highest suspension
available as standard or optional equipment for the particular vehicle from the original manufacturer.
The distance shall be measured between the lowest edge of the centerline of the operator's door, or
to the lowest point where the door would meet the body on vehicles without doors, or to the lowest
point on the floor panel directly below the operator's position on vehicles designed without doors, and
the level surface on which the unladen vehicle rests, as determined by the Registrar.

And lets not forget this:

6.06: Violations
(1) Due to slight variances in production tolerances, violations must be in excess of one inchbeyond
the Registrar's specifications of approved maximum altered heights.

I can't find the "Original Manufacturer's Height". Specs include axle clearance but the 'height' is measured with or without a top (hardtop, soft top, topless) but no specs on "the lowest edge of the centerline of the operator's door....... and the level surface on which the unladen vehicle rests"

Inspection tires just became more valuable... for that matter, what's the smallest tire TJs came with?

And my Mog inspections just became a little more fun!

Pretty sure the TJs came with a 215/75r15 standard, maybe a 205/75r15. Basically 29" tire.

If you started with a Rubicon, those came with a 30-31" tire.

MA does have a cutoff and its currently back in 2003 for emissions. There is NO cutoff for safety which is where everything falls into for ride height tint and everything else.

I can almost see some of us developing hidden spring compressors so that we can pull them down haha.
'97 thats been chopped up and put back together, and ready to take on the trails.

I have already been doing this for 2 years.

The springs are the easy part. Resetting the track bar, steering, and upper control arms (long arms) is the tedious part.

Then doing it all again right after.

At least it forces you to go through your suspension every year.
