Short notice wrenchfest Sunday Aug 6th

Unread post by Modeler »

Kurt has once again provided his place for a wrenchfest this Sunday morning, August 6th. Anyone who isn't heading to OFR is welcome to stop in. Hoping to start around 9AM if that is OK.

I'll be swapping both front axle shafts, rotors, calipers and brake pads.

Sorry man, that's a little far for me this weekend... my hounds are still adjusting to apartment life. Maybe next time!

And not to add on to your work load, but if you haven't done your ball joints in a while, might be something to think about knocking out while you've already got almost everything disassembled. Good luck!

Ball Joints were replaced with upgraded/greasable ones a couple years ago, thanks though.

It looks like I might be able to come for pictures and learning. :)

Perhaps, if there's time (and extra hands), maybe we can get my the armor Mark StGermain gave me on...or even get my winch mounted. I don't have hardware for either though. So, I'll need to see if I can get some in time. If not, I'm happy to just try and come, even if it's only for part of the day.

Put me down as a 'maybe'. I probably won't know until that AM if I can make it but I could use some time wrenchin with friends. If I do show up I'm bringing my Earthquake XT 20V impact gun because...... because it's a 20V with a metric chit ton of torque... duhhhh...... 8-)

Cool hopefully you can make it, like to see that impact in action. And, we'll compare notes on rental cars. LOL

Thanks again Kurt for the use of the facility and the assistance.

Knocked out swapping both front axle shafts, new pads/rotors/calipers/dust shields on the front end. Diagnosed a bad u-joint on the differential end of the front DS.

While I was underneath doing those Kurt knocked out installing my passenger side antenna bracket for the ham antenna, repaired the right fender flare marker/turn signal LED wiring and grounding point, replaced the left side fog light bulb (which neither of could find where the filament was broken, it looked perfect). When he wasn't doing that he was holding the brakes on to remove/tighten axle shaft nuts or working them to bleed. He also knocked out repositioning the steering stabilizer bracket that was rubbing on the tie rod and track bar and removing the t-case end of the front driveshaft.

Oh, yeah, and we were done by 2PM. Could not have gotten all that done in a reasonable time without you. Thank you again so much.

Seems nobody local has the Super44 (Saginaw 3R)/1310 hybrid u-joint in stock locally for the DS. Amazon to the rescue for a Spicer 5-793X.
