Zip Locker
Finally back on this side of the country and I have a question. Jen forced me to buy a rear locker for the JK so now it has to be installed. Since essentially this is just swapping the carrier is it a much simpler job then doing a re-gear? Is this something that could be handled during a BSJ wrench fest?

Re: Zip Locker
Should be easier and I say should. All you should have to deal with in set up is the preload mesh of the gear pattern . You should also buy a new set of ring gear bolts as no one recommends reusing them , although some do and get away with it. FjR68

Re: Zip Locker
Might need to buy a new pair of bearing for the carrier so you can make a set of setup bearings with the old bearings.
Generally one needs to use setup bearings to determine the shim set needed to set the preload and backlash. Once shims selected then put shims and new bearings on with a shop press.
The shims appear to go between the carrier and the bearings.

Re: Zip Locker
So it kind of sounds like I should have a shop do it.
I walked away the first time but she told me to go back as we were walking to the BFG tent.Modeler wrote:LOL! Forced!
