I forgot to mention that I could be wrong. I have been many times before. This is just what worked for me.

With a toe in alignment, the jeep will react harsher to bumps and steering inputs. It will dart around a bit. If it was toe out, it'd "float" or wander around a bit. Maybe the "bounce" or "hop" you felt was caused by that.
