Freekin Jeep
Man ! I have had a time with with this Jeep. The engine has been in and out 3 times so far. The first was the wrong clutch pak , no disengagement , Then wrong release bearing, I just cant win here ! Me VENTING ! Can anyone help in finding me (part number) a long release bearing for an 82 T-176 that will fit . There arent any parts people left in the industry . All they know is what engine is in it ? Im in the process of modifying a shift fork to work with the available release bearing and still give me the throw to disengage the clutch . Its a 74 258 and an 82 T176 . FjR68

Re: Freekin Jeep
We have a Crown in Ma. ? Thanks for the info. Im told that when they changed the dash and pedal assembly , (76) The throw changed. The pedals wont hang on my pivot as they would hit the floor before releasing the clutch. I will try him today and if not , going to use the modified shift fork I made yesterday. FjR68
Re: Freekin Jeep
Is the linkage mechanical or hydraulic? It may be worth looking at going hydraulic if you haven't already... You may be able to mix and match the cylinder ends to get the right throw.

Re: Freekin Jeep
Thanks Jon : Its all rod from the pedals to the bell crank, to the shift fork. I modified a shift fork but wont know if it works untill the engine is in. Thats the *****. What I would need to do is change the Dash, column and pedals to get what I need for throw with the 82 trans. What I would like to find is the long throw out bearing that fits the input shaft of the tranny ! Thanks for the input. FjR68

Re: Freekin Jeep
Spoke with both gentlemen at crown. They have no definite answers but Jeff said he will order in several styles for Mon/Tues . I will bring my caliper to measure the ID . They have the right style bearing (looking at pictures) now to see if it fits the tranny . Maybe , just maybe , I can get my poop together. Isnt it weird that they only sell in Ma. ? I have to go there to purchase it they cant send it to me ???? FjR68

Lou at Elias 4WD is a Crown dealer. If they have it you could call him Monday and he may be able to get it drop-shipped...

Re: Freekin Jeep
Frank - they can't ship. The agreement that they make with their dealers, like Lou, allows them to sell face - to - face in a retail setting, but not ship. That's directly competing with their authorized dealers, nobody would work with them if they were shipping direct to customers, they could under-price that way.Frank wrote:Spoke with both gentlemen at crown. Re: Freekin Jeep
Thanks for the hook up guys and the information. Every thing has been exhausted with no resolve. With out changing the dash ,column, pedals, linkage, bellcrank , Im going to have the same issues Ive dealt with for 8 years. So on to bigger and better plans. I modified a spare shift fork, Im going to modify an 82/86 bell crank , Im going to add threads to my pedal rod to shorten it ,and then Im going to put the engine in for the 3rd and last time . Come what may ! With everything I have changed over the 13 yrs. of owning Mona , this is the first bite in the derriere Ive been face with. Heres to having free play at the pedal and enough throw to disengage the clutch. Let you know soon. FjR68

Re: Freekin Jeep
That's a better plan then when I converted my '70 Nova to a stick.....
.....I wormscrew clamped a chunk of heavy strap stock to the bearing fork and used a parking brake cable with some Disney brackets from the pedal to the fork

Re: Freekin Jeep
Why oh why didnt I think of that ! Without any free play at the pedal ,you know the release bearing is short lived and thats if you keep your foot off it. The biggest issue is off road , if its twisted you just cant shift it. I mostly shut it off then made the shift then start it. Thought Id finally fix this issue. What the heck , Ive made most of the stuff on and in her . Might as well see if I can fix this too. FjR68

Re: Freekin Jeep
When I think of this all I can see is people running through the streets and screaming as a Nova executes a perfect 4 wheel drift around a corner, the sound of a Muncie Stone Crusher banging gears as an LT1 whales through dual Thrush turbo's, Jensen 6 x 9's pumping out the Foghat.......johnsxj wrote:That's a better plan then when I converted my '70 Nova to a stick.....
