It's a stock Jeep and I just want to turn it into a daily driven, rock crawling, overland expedition project that gets 20+ mpg and makes 300 hp.
Should I bring it?

The Home Depot near me only had 26 and 22 in stock.

Also, my tub corner armor painted black and has holes to drill into the tub. Unsure of drilling vs welding as far as rust. Any input guys?
Which means, I must figure out where I put all of the hardware that came with it. I bought it back in 2011/2012 then moved!

I bought a sheet to do my fender patch, and there's plenty left to share

Do we need it? I can bring my 110V MIG but unless I bring the cart, there's nothing to secure the bottle. Or we can lay the bottle on its side. If I can figure out a way to fit it in my rig, I'll bring it. Might need to muck out some space but pretty sure we can make it happen. Really looking forward to this

Carl/Jeff - If it's easier I could bring my 240V MIG, bottles, cart, long power cord, consumables, masks, welding blanket, gloves, apron, ... yada yada yada.
Would bring the plasma cutter to zip any metal that needs cutting.
Both just require a single "welder" outlet in the shop to power both of them. Jeff - is one available there?
Lots of room in the back of my pickup to load stuff into.

If there is time leftover attendees are more than welcome to try their hand at MIG welding and Plasma cutting on some scrap steel. :)

I'd be interested in coming! I don't have any projects that NEED doing haha. I'm typically pretty good at holding things and helping out, so I'll do what I can. If time allows, I wouldn't mind cutting down my bumper to a mid length stubby and possibly welding the ends closed for some strength. Id have to pick up some steel for that though.

Feel free to join in, ISH. Sounds like it's shaping up to be a great gathering!

And, Kurt, I wouldn't mind learning a thing or two about welding, too.

Welding 102 ? This will be fun --- again. Amanda : most of the armor Ive seen is bolted on ,(back corners-rocker guards) Just get them a T.S. I believe they are 3/8th or 7/16th counter sunk allen head bolts (a tapered hole ) and probably 1" or 1.25" long. Maybe someone with those pieces can tell us what size they are for sure ? FjR68

With this cold snap we're in, I'm wondering if this shop has heat. I'm trying to determine if I need to start layering up now or wait another day. :eusa-think:

Drill baby drill! You want to make sure you have some decent C-clamps, the sheet metal is pretty easy to drill thru, I bought a bunch of poison spyder stuff used but the PO did not supply hardware. The Ace Hardware on Rt 40 (you will drive by it on the way to the shop) sells the bolts and nutserts I used to mount them to my Jeep. About a buck each for the bolt and a less for the nut.... never heard of people welding armor to a tub although Im sure its been done... :music-rockout:

For sure they have the 240 outlet, they have a giant old welder in the next area of the shop (not the area I was planning to use the next wall/bay over...) I can check where the outlet is at lunch time... I dont know about the big welder they have but its HUGE IIRC as opposed to the smaller one they have in

Carl I'll leave it up to you, was thinking you may want to play with the new toy and it would be good to have a second welder on hand. they have a bunch of cutting torches etc so we can find something to strap the bottles to if you like.

@ Kurt do you still have a car dolly by chance? I need to drag my Commando to a shop to get brake lines done..... unless someone wants to do a separate wrench fest on that at a later date on some old iron..... ;) that punch list is longer with brake lines, a new gas tank, some steering issues (possible swap to power from manual Ross) and a few other odds and ends I'm sure some I don't know about... really want to get that on the road for 2015... 8-)

I assume you mean the car trailer. Yup still have it.
I can give you a hand with brake lines some day if you want to tackle it.
Can bring my flaring tool.

I assumed he had a welder outlet. :)
I can bring my welder extension cord. It's about 30+' long.

I was wondering if you had a car dolly for just the front wheels... I was thinking of dragging it to my neighbors shop across the street. (less than a mile, most likely 0.3 miles, he has a trailer - its the one I borrow. But it seems a waste to load and secure the Jeep on a trailer for such a short ride... Would love to do the work myself and I will have the time this winter more like than not.... lets see how satruday goes and maybe we can plan a round 2 some time in Feb... 8-)
