I cant believe its the type of oil (brand) . Let us know after the oil change. FjR68

What shops in the Peabody ma area do you guys recommend for regearing? I think my front diff output bearing is toast and I might as well regear

I'd recommend Elias 4WD in Townsend.
It's not "local" to Peabody but Lou and his guys do great work.
I've had a couple of axles re-geared there. :)

We are waiting ? I had to exhale already. What , if anything did they find ? Funny , I use Valvoline 80/90 in the Rangers and 85 / 140 in the Jeep. We get no clunking ever. With the wheels turned on black top ? Maybe thats why. Let us know. FjR68

Sorry Frank. I have been traveling and out of touch. We didn't find anything in the diffs. We also checked all u-joints, steering, and suspension components and couldn't find anything wrong. Changed the oil to Castrol and it still does it. Funny I called eaton again and they reiterated not using valvoline. They also said that the jeep would not be moving if there was a real issue with the trutracs. They either work or they don't. At this point I am choosing to ignore it. For now anyways :-) Happy New Year

What just came to me was , how many miles total on the Jeep. Ive had two people complain about a clunk when changing direction. Turned out to be a sloppy chain in the T-case. Now that you have a traction device in both diffs. Maybe it has to overcome the binding they produce when the wheels are turned. It dont make any noise while driving or backing while wheels are straight ???? FjR68

Hi Frank. I have 126k miles. It mostly happens when backing up with the wheels cut to the left on pavement. It's quiet when backing up with wheels straight. Sometimes it does when moving forward with wheels straight after backing up. Strange.

At 126k it might be a loose chain in the T-case , Glad its not the True tracs. If its only once in awhile or once changing direction , I wouldnt worry about it to much. Just keep an ear out to see if it gets louder or more noticeable when doing other things. I really can see something happening when the wheels are turned on blacktop. Wait till you off road with those babys in there. Its gonna be like a new Jeep. Come on SPRING ! FjR68

Thanks for the tip guys.

I've made contact with them, I'll talk to them on the phone this week. Ballpark, how much money to regear?

Finally think I solved the "thunk" issue. Turns out one of my front control arm bolts was not fully tightened. I thought I had checked it. I feel like a moron. Two days and no clunking.
