Newbie in the house

Checking in to say hello to everyone.
I am a fairly new Jeep owner having purchased my girl in March 2013.
"Lucy" is a 2011 JK Sport Wrangler automatic. The only real modification is tires. She has new 30" tires. I wanted to go bigger,but because this is my daily ride and I am a visiting nurse, my mileage would suffer a bit. I saw 2 miles per gallon drop when I put these on about a month ago. If I had my way she would have some nice mud tires maybe 32". I have a whole wish list, lol. I really would like to lift her a bit too but not really sure, being such a newbie, what is best. I love my JEEP and have since I drove her off the dealers lot!
Anyway, looking through the website I saw that I should check out the forum to learn more. I am considering applying to become a baystate member and really want to learn more. My biggest consideration is time.

Consider becoming a member so you can take Lucy out and experience some fun trail rides this season.

If you changed tire size, have your ECU reprogrammed to correct for it. This will bring your speedometer, and therefore your calculated mileage, back in line. Also - in a JK the ECU changes engine settings depending on reported speed vs reported RPM. When you change tire size, it gets a false reading and doesn't operate as efficiently as it should. You can have it done at a dealer, or buy a programmer yourself, but you should get it reprogrammed.

Pro-Cal can be used again and again everytime you do something to change tire sizes, gear ratios, etc. It also has a lot of other functions, like resetting low tire pressure parameters, traction control, etc.

Then I was the unlucky one I suppose because I went bigger and mine were factory stock. Unless I am measuring incorrectly? I put Toyo 265-70R 16. I just used a tape mot measure from one Side to the other. Hey, I told you I was new, lol

Learn how to drive it off road and work with what you have. When you're ready for more, you build more. I've seen a lot of people go too far too fast and end up in a Jeep capable of getting them in way over their head.

Thank you for that. It seemed sensible to go with tires first. I definitely need to learn more. I am seriously considering becoming a member of the baystate jeepers, but need to purchase a couple of things first. I think I will learn more that way about what is an important mod vs what is a desired mod.

Mike - mine came from the factory with 225/70x16, which I think works out to about 28" or 29". Like Kerri, I went to the Toyo 265 right away but never adjusted the speedo. I suffered from pretty bad mileage until last fall, when you guys put the 35s on it for me and reprogrammed the speedo.
