I have a 2012 2 door sport with air. It is nice and clean like the day I got it. It has a new top on it from 2014. Bone stock. I’m looking to sell/trade for a new 2014. I love that new car smell.
My questions are: to sell or trade in, and where is the best place to buy? I got my at Herb Chambers. It was a lack luster sale, but they did replace the top cuz of a inside seam cover flaw and put in a new heater core with out any fuss. What do you all think?

Generally you'll do better in the end by selling it in a private sale rather than trading it in.
Dealers always do a shell game with the trade in value and the new vehicle price.
You can always go in armed with the value of you 2012 and negotiate a no trade in cash price for the 2014.
Once you have the final negotiated cash price THEN tell them you may be interested in trading in your 2012 and see what they are going to give you for a trade in value on your 2012.
I used TrueCar.com for the last Jeep I bought new. Not all dealers participate in the program.
Was very pleased with the price and the process.

I have been very please with Imperial in Mendon. Like Kurt, I would recommend a personal sale as opposed to a trade-in. They have to give you less for the trade-in if they ever have hopes of making a profit when they sell it. And, as you know, profit is the name of the game! Even though most people understand used cars are "as-is", it wouldn't hurt to remind potential buyers of that fact, as good as the Jeep may be.

I always used planet jeep in franklin. Mike Powers is the jeep person there. He has been there for over 10 years. Have gotten three from him over the years. Give him a call. Tell him the veterinarian sent you. Good luck.

Re: Need new, sell old: Please Help
I hear a lot of good feedback for selling it outright to carmax. I did it with a 2002 Blazer with low miles and got more than I was asking for it on Craiglist. I also e-mailed them with pics of my wife's ZJ we've had for four years and their offer was a thousand bucks more than I paid for it at a used car dealer... It has 173k miles on it and needs a new hood. I might drive down there with a ride home, bring the ZJ and the Ford Focus my wife actually drives everyday to see if we can score cash for a Jeep Liberty KJ for her and a new XJ parts car for me.

I wholeheartedly agree with dalsnpals. Mike Powers, Planet Jeep. No sales pressure, didn't try to persuade me to buy any silly upgrades or options. Ordered the Jeep I wanted exactly as I wanted it. They also matched my better financing offer I had. Mike drives a Cherokee (not the new junk). He is definitely a Jeep guy as we spent more time going through my Comanche than the JK when I came in.dalsnpals wrote:I always used planet jeep in franklin. Mike Powers is the jeep person there. As this reply is extremely late it probably does not matter but...
I bought a 2013 Jeep Unlimited from Herb Chambers in July of 2013 then traded back in for a custom 2014 from Guzik Jeep in Ware. These guys were awesome and highly recommended.
All of the aftermarket parts were ordered by them and installed. They took my old parts as trade and they rolled the cost of the parts into the cost of the Jeep. I have 1 payment and almost everything I wanted on a Jeep. (There is always something new to add)
