Metallic rubbing noise when turning to right

Unread post by ChrisH »

Posted this to jeepforum as well, but thought I would also the local experts as well...

I just installed a Rokmen tummy tuck and engine skid, and also 1" spacers/bushings in the front end to compensate for a new bumper/winch. Post install, I'm getting a metallic scraping sound when I turn to the right. It sounds a bit like the dust shield behind the brakes, but nothing visibly appears to be rubbing.

Also, it's constant when turning to the right....on or off the gas or brake, the sound is persistent. I'm thinking perhaps something might be caught in the caliper...but not really sure if this theory is sound.

Jack the front end up, cut the wheel, and spin the tire by hand while you listen for the sound.
I am the foremost authority on my opinion.

Tried that. Can't duplicate the sound with the wheel in the air.

Does the sound only happen when you're moving?

What about with the engine off? Can you coast through a corner without noise?

You can pull apart the brakes to see if there is junk in there...

Did you place the front coils correctly in the axle side mounts?

OK, figured this out yesterday with some help from both my brothers...turned out to be a dust shield, but on the opposite side of the truck (left vs right) than I originally thought. I must have bent the shield when I was removing the shock to get the springs free.

Anyway, all is well now. Thanks for the guidance.
