JK owners - seat recline issues?

Unread post by DDewar53 »

The driver's seat in Donna's 2007 won't recline any more. The lever goes up and down, but the seat back doesn't move. Anybody got any thoughts on whether it's worth tearing into, or should I just try to find a new seat. Keep in mind that I've never had any luck getting interior stuff back together without it looking like Curious George did the work.

I've had Curious George do some interior work on my rig, too.

I think it is worth tearing into, though. The hardest part might be getting the loctite slathered bolts out. Then it should be a matter of just reconnecting whatever came off the lever when she shoved the contraband under the seat during the police pursuit.

It's the driver's seat. I took it the seat out, and the back comes off of the seat with just a couple of bolts. The recliner mechanism is attached to the back, and I couldn't find any way to get at it to see if something was bent or broke or what. Ended up getting seats out of a 2012 from a junkyard. They wouldn't split up the set, so I had to buy both. Of course I bought the ones without airbags only to find that the originals had airbags. So now I have an airbag light on. I'll have to see if I can get it flashed to go off. I also need to have my jeep flashed to correct the speedo, maybe I can get a volume discount.

If, by volume discount, you mean the dealer will charge you twice as much, I think you'll find you're in luck.

Not sure if a dealer would be willing to turn off the airbag light, don't plan to chance it. There's a guy who owns a shop down here in Quincy, he used to be a Jeep dealer until they closed him under the bailout. He still has all of the computers and stuff. I've heard that he'll flash ecus, and for a lot less than regular dealers.

Yeah, I went to him to do the clockspring. He does good work.
