The spammer are back with a vengance.
I've been deleting their posts when they pop up.
I've also deleted about 40 spammer accounts that they've created in just the past week. :angry-cussingblack:

On another forum, the IT guy would ban the entire country and it worked. Being a local forum, it didn't seem to affect anyone.

I've blown away 3, two this morning... Getting them as I see them.

I thought we required manual authorization/approval for new users?

Nope. Still automatic.
We ought to switch to manual.
Another 10 or so new spammer accounts since last night.
I'm spending about 20 minutes every day reviewing and deleting spammer accounts.
Gotta do something to stop them.

Agreed - especially since the last legit account was created 12days ago.

FYI.. I flipped it back to Verification email required, added 20k IP address blocks to the block list and changed the Security question.

Some things I have learned over the many years...
- There is NO silver bullet
- Third-party silver bullet products are most likely scam or create other issues
- Manual approval doesn't mean squat to the bots, they get around it
- Requiring new registers to introduce themselves in a certain section seems to help
- Change the security question every 6months

Thanks for working so hard on this Chris!!! I think people tend to forget that you and the rest of the BOD have day jobs to pay the bills and managing the forum is something you do on your own time and on your own dime so to speak. so......
