A pesky noise coming from my front end turned out to be a crunchy u-joint on my passenger side axle. Picked up the best u-j-joint I could find (Moog) and pulled the axle. Then things got interesting.
I was able to get the 4 c-clips out, no problem. Pressing out the caps? Problem. Blew the end off of one cap and gave up before I did similar damage to the other cap(s). Plus it looked like the skies were about to open up, I'm not a fan of wrenching in the rain. Hmmmmm...... almost sounds like the start of a country song..... ...... Decided it's better to put it on hold and ask for experienced help, beats scrooing it up even worse.
Not in a huge hurry, but I need my Heep back in one piece my next Sunday (July 14) If anyone has experience un-FUBAR'ing a u-joint and has a garage to work in, I can bring the axle and new u-joint over some night this week. Need help removing the old, busted up POS and while I'm there, I'd like to make sure the new one goes in correctly. Lemme know, and thanks

Carl,
If you want you can drop it off some work day at lunch if that's more convenient.
I work in Tewksbury and will be there Mon-Thurs.
Or... I'll be home all day Friday if you wanna stop by
Or ... any night this week if that's better for you.

Hey Cahl. A little heat can work wonders. I've broken out caps like that before. It makes it a little harder, you have to find a socket that fits inside the hole but still makes contact with what's left there. Heat it with a propane torch - you don't need it red hot, just apply some heat, then put the socket inside and press it on out, it should pop right out if you've applied enough heat.
