I know that this has been discussed a bit in past forums but I am trying to get my head wrapped around the mass laws. According to the law the max mechanical lift height is track x wheelbase / 2200.
So for a stock TJ this is 2.5". There is also 1" tolerance. So the way I understand this is that they can't fail you up to 3.5"
The question I have is how do they measure this? I am planning on running 33" tires with 3.25" of lift and want to know if i am going to run into trouble.

Re: Lift laws
Dude : As far as Ive read on this topic , guys will put on stock tires and wheels for the inspection , thus lowering the vehicle . I guess it wont hurt to know the guy doing the inspection. Im in Ct. so Im not the one to rely on for this info. We dont have this issue. Just what Ive heard and read. 33s and a short lift shouldnt be of big concern . FjR68

Re: Lift laws
i have a 4.5" lift and run 35s- for inspection I throw on stock tires. Certain places will fail you automatically without measuring.
What area of MA do you live in?
i've seen them measure from the ground to the bottom of your door sill.

I live in Canton. I guess I could buy a cheap set of rims and hold onto my 31's.asauer17 wrote:i have a 4.5" lift and run 35s- for inspection I throw on stock tires. Certain places will fail you automatically without measuring.
