Steering box brace

Has anyone installed one of these? Dennis, is this what broke on your rig? My big upgrade this winter is going to be steering (PSC box, pump, hydro-assist) and this looks like a good addition. They do note in only fits factory steering boxes, but maybe it's a simple mod to get it to work with a PSC one? Thoughts?

I would say it's probably not really needed. Your ram assist will effectively take the strain off of your steering gear. A bit different on the XJ as their steering gear is mounted to the unibody rather than the frame.

I would say time and money is better spent on a high steer setup. Change your outer knuckles and make a tie rod and drag link, the goal being to separate the two rather than that piss poor design where the drag link TRE attaches through the tie rod.

I put in the PSC hydro assist system in my YJ build.
Just had to slightly notch the existing steering box brace a bit to get it to fit the new PSC box.
The box had a couple of ribs in the casting the stock box didn't have.
Minor stuff.

Duncan, for a DD the inverted Y is actually a pretty good setup. Since I've already spent the $ on currie steering with a DS tie rod flip I'm going to stick with it for now.

Kurt, thanks for the pics/info. It's relatively short $ compared to the rest of the setup, so it probably doesn't hurt. Looks like it won't be a big deal to modify. Any reason not to do it?

I gotta call BS here. No way a shorter drag link operating at a steeper angle is optimal, on or off road. Only reason it was done is the passenger's side knuckle casting was cheaper to produce, less machining than a knuckle that will accept a drag link and a tie rod. :naughty:

I will, however, buy the fact that you have already put money into your current setup and have no desire to spend more on something you've ever done. :shock:

I've been pretty happy with the MORE steering brace. It's beefy and fits good. They offer a different one for your year.

Duncan, from my web wheeling the inverted Y has less of a dead spot and the way the toe in changes during cornering makes it more stable. But I see what you're saying.

I have the MORE brace for the XJ... Seems to have been a worthwhile investment. It is on a PSC box.
