What a day...

Unread post by Kurt »

My daughters car breaks down on RT 2 in Gardner. Sound like the serp belt broke. She leaves the car there and get a ride to her class CPR re-certification class.
I grab my tools, hit the AZ on the way and pick up a serp belt.
Find the car on the side of RT 2. Struggle for a while and end up busting all 3 3/8" drives I brought trying to relax the spring loaded belt tensioner.
Leave the car there and head home for some 1/2" sockets, drives and a piece of pipe for leverage.
Drive all the way back and use the new tools and move the spring loaded tensioner. All of a sudden SNAP and the tensioner bolt shears off. Crap! :angry-cussingblack:
I limp the car to the next exit, park it and head back home for the truck and trailer. Shovel the trailer off and drag it thru the snow with the truck. The truck still had the plow on it. Head back to the broken down car for the third time now driving the truck & trailer..
Tooling along RT 2A in Fitchburg with the truck and trailer. Suddenly a car pulls out from a side street on my right trying to make a left turn in front of me just as I get to the intersection. WTF! I jump on the brakes with two feet. :-o
BLAM....! I t-bone the car with the plow and the car spins around coming to a halt in the lane next to me. Girl driving is hysterical.

People jump out to check on her. She's OK fortunately. Her car is F'd though. The snow plow did a number on her drivers side. I suspect it's totaled. She's sobbing and repeatedly apologizing. Poor kid was really upset. Did my best to calm her down.
Police come and do their thing. Plow looks to be twisted and bent. Will have to check it in the morning with daylight. She admit she's at fault to the officer and I continue on my way to get my daughters broken down car.
Drove back to Gardner, load up the car and trailer it home in the dark.

What a day!

Oh man! What a day is right. I hope you are ok as well, sounds it...but what a Pain in the butt! Wish we had known, Doug had trailer out today brining Scrambler home.

I hope the plow, and your truck for that matter are ok...and that you had a HUGE beer after getting home. I soppose, as long as everyone is alright, it wasn't a bad day. She'll never do THAT again!

Dude : Glad your okay ! I remember many years back ,did the same thing. Carrying the blade angled . When I hit the brakes the truck started to twist left and the blade went through the side of the car just behind the drivers seat ! The woman insisted she had the right of way and the cop repeatedly tried to convince her a stop sign on a side street and me on a main road, dont give her the the right of way. What a crappy day for you. I got a new wider blade out of it. You know yours is bent ! Check also the frame brackets for the plow. Make sure it goes on and off as easy as it did before. FjR68

Going to check it over today in the daylight. Last night the blade looked twisted and the drivers side was riding higher than the passengers side. It was the driver side of the blade that took the hit. It was angled straight, but upon impact the blade ended up fully angled to the left.
Good point... Will check the minute mount mechanism along with the push plates and hydraulics.

Just checked it over.
- Plow blade is twisted
- Plow "A" frame is twisted
- Plow pivot bar bent
- Drivers Side angle piston is bent & leaking
- Hydraulic oil sprayed on most parts
Monday is MLK day so no adjuster until at least Tue.

Sure hope it doesn't snow much in the near future

Sucks Kurt... Sorry to hear that... Good that no one was hurt though. Our forecast is 3-5" tonight, so.... Yeah...

If you hire someone to plow get a receipt and forward it to her insurance company...

I thought of you but didn't think there really wasn't anything you could do.
The serpentine belt was broken. Hence water pump not turning. Was barely able to limp it to the RT 140 exit before it started to overheat due to the total lack of coolant flow. Ended up parking it on the first little sideroad by the pond on RT 140 north until I returned later with the truck and trailer.
