I saw that too Frank, not that I need a winch. Not sure who makes them.

It isn't a rebrand, but it is made in China. It's not made in the same factory as the Smitty, Mile Marker, ect, they have specifically designed the winch themselves and source production. They claim "highest quality parts possible," but it's difficult to see what exactly they mean by "possible." Highest quality parts possible....at this price point....would be my guess, in that case, chances are they're not great. The good news is there's a 1 year electrical warranty, and a limited lifetime mechanical warranty. Personally, as I do wheel alone from time to time, a winch is not something I'm going to skimp on. Last thing you want is to be stuck and your only means of getting out fails you.

I like my old Ramsey.

If I were to buy a new lower price point winch though, I hear good things about the XRC8 Smittybuilt.

I have a smittybilt XRC8 and haven't had a problem but at the CRAWL event at Brookridge I believe someone in our group smoked a Smittybilt winch going up the one hill we needed winches for. I'm not sure what caused the problem and haven't heard any reports since but he was getting power to the winch and it wasn't moving so something internal was fried.

I can't complain about my Superwinch 9.0. For the first few years of its life it lived outside in all the elements. I'm on my second cable now and it's held up very well.

I would go with a Superwinch, Frank. Not so much based on my like of them, more based on my dislike of Smittybilt. It seems the quality of their products just gets worse and worse. Lots of guys run Superwinch and have little or no problems. Also, if I'm going to pick a mfg, I'm going to pick the one that specializes in winches rather than one that specializes in nothing.

Another thought, it's possible you don't need to pick a winch, instead, pick a wench:

Nice big D ! usually the difference between the 8/10 k winches seems to be gear ratio not H.P. went to the Super Winch gathering but was unable to take advantage of their discount at the time. Ill keep looking . Buy the way , Ill take wench #2 to go ! FjR68
