Heater core advice
My heater core started leaking into the cab and I bypassed it about a month ago. Now it's time to go shopping.
The internet advice is to buy an OEM heater core for the best fit, quality and durability. But the price is way more than an aftermarket core. Anyone have any advice? I could obviously use the money saved for another jeep mod!
$400 OEM
$120 Crown #4874045

$120 Omix-Ada #OAI17901.04

$51 Vista-Pro #399233 from Rock Auto

Re: Heater core advice
I bought one at Rock Auto, but I never got around to installing it. It is sitting in a box in my garage...

I would get the Crown one, but I would drive down to Canton and pick it up at the Crown retail outlet.

You can't beat OEM for fit and quality, but the price is way out of whack. I have friends in low places, let me get back to you with a price.
This is to fit the 98 TJ?

Yup, 98 TJ 6cyl.
The Crown outlet is only 20 minutes away from me, and they have 1 in stock for $75 which is not bad at all. I'll can pick it up this Saturday. I'd prefer the OEM core, but not at 5x the cost!

The guy on the phone said they're open 10 - 2 this Saturday.
Looks like they're normally open on Saturdays based on their google page.

Oh, I get it. He cut back his hours on weekdays (used to be 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) and added Saturday. Cool, now that I know that I won't have to hurry home from work to make it before he closes.

It was a special option in '74.... Had something like a small Webber grill that carried a bucket of hot coals between the drivers and passenger seats... They discontinued it for some reason though...Frank wrote:Whats a heater core ? Was that an option in 74 . FjR68

Laugh if you want, but that was the heat in our church when it was built. They had cast iron boxes with handles and lids. On the way in, you stopped by the hearth and filled them with hot coals, then carried them with you and set them down by your feet in the pew.nostaw wrote:It was a special option in '74....
