can someone explain why it's only 3500? why is the grand rated for so much more? makes no sense to me, especially with the new 3.6L.

Yuk. That's about half of what is needed.
Yup, that's why I still have a Tahoe.

I've argued this for awhile now. While a tow rating has a lot more to do with weight, brakes, transmission, cooling etc than just the engine, it seems that the Unlimited JK should be a lot higher than 3,500. For some reason Jeep doesn't want us to tow with them.

The Wrangler comes with a class II hitch. The Grand comes with the 5.7L and available class IV hitch.

The Grand with the 3.6 is good for 5,000 lbs.
With the optional 5.7 it jumps ups to 7,400 lbs.

I heard they will have a model change in 2014 and thats when we will see the truck. I heard the new V-6 is better but I still wish for something else under the hood. This is ceartinly a sweet looking JK. I've got to say that the difference between the 07-11JK minivan plant compared to the 12 penstar is amazing. I've had mine for a little over a week. I had 3.73 in my 08 with an automatic and my new jeep has the 3.73s with the 6 speed and it turns a good jeep into a great jeep. Plenty of power even on the highway. I did drive an automatic with the new engine/transmission and same capacity and although the tow capacity is not greater than the prior model the seat of the pants feel is amazing for a stick or an auto.... No need for a super charger in my new JK... :)
