Question for the maytag repair man or handy man...

OK twice now I have fished a metal rod from the impeller in my washing machine sump pump. there is nothing I can see remotely close to this piece in the tub and it does not look like anything I or the kids/wife would have left in my pockets. I dont have the last piece but it looked an awful lot like the one I pulled out today. Its about 4-5" long has a slight curve to it and is only a mm or so thick. Kind of looks like the arm for a pair of glasses but is too short. there is white paint on one end of it and it looks like the whole thing may have onve been painted white. Any ideas???

good call but the wife says that it looks like a removable under wire and she does not use that kind. Id be willing to bet we did laundry for some one that uses those (either my sis or hers) and they forgot to remove them....
