First the bearing is a 1 pc bearing (prob has a technical term for the type of bearing) and I would say is pressed in but prob doesn't take that much force to press it in. I think the issue was that only one alignment pin was installed; which keeps the 2 halves aligned (or I believe they do).
Just waiting for the new parts to arrive this week...
True on the alignment dowels. Fixed , you mean the race is attached to the bearing and it sits in the housing that you showed us? So the bearing is pressed onto the shaft you removed ? Some thing needs to keep the race in place so the bearing rotates inside of it. If the race revolves instead of holding still and letting the bearing revolve it will wear out the case. The outside of the race not being lubricated might be the noise (squeal) you were hearing. Unless pressure of the two halves being bolted together apply enough pressure. I ve never worked on a 241 but I just didnt want you to have a issue down the road. Happy motoring ! FjR68
The "style" of bearing I am referring to can be seen in the following image (left side of case). I used sleeve retainer to hold it in place, which should work. If it ends up that I have any issues the case half is only ~$260.
Most excellent ! As long as that retainer has some resistance going in , I believe thats gonna be good. The pic at the disassemble looked like the race had spun in the housing. You should be good to go. Thanks Chris FjR68
Installed the 1/2" BL from Rokmen yesterday, provided the exact amount of clearance that I needed. Only if this kit was available last year, perhaps I wouldn't of had to dimple the tub.
Holy batman... Took the jeep out today with the 4:1 installed and talk about having a whole new jeep! 32" tires, 4.56 gears add in the 4:1 and life is good! Can't wait to play on the rocks....
