This seems like a good idea for a longer travel shock, especially if you're thinking of outboarding rear shocks. But for $400 a shock, i think I'd cry if I busted one!

Pay to play!
A Bilstein coil over w/ remote res can run about $500.00 a piece.

Looks like a gimick.... You don't get any more travel than a standard shock... Why complicate things?

Re: $400 for a shock!
The only 5150 I like is from Van Halen.
Seriously though, The heckethorn on my YJ have been there for 15+ years and while they've leaked for about 2, I'll replace them with what is now Trailmaster (NVV or NSS, whatever they're called now).
If I can dig up the coin, the rear link in my buggy will run Fox 2.0's. I'd love to do coilovers, but they just aren't in the budget. As it is, I may have to run a rear SOA or 1/4 elliptical leaves. I'm poor.
On the bright side, if I ever decide to compete, the chasis is pretty simple to modify.
Regarding which is better above - I like simple and less moving parts. The Bilsteins would be the way to go.
You guys think $400.00 is expensive....check out these:

Re: $400 for a shock!
also, the Bilstein 5100 for the rear compliments the 5150's in the front. That's what I'm running on my LJ with no sag at all. I suppose you could put 5150's in the rear, but the side gas can might get in the way.

Re: $400 for a shock!
The shocks have nothing to do with ride height (unless it's an air shock). Any sag would be from the springs.RLVRSK wrote: That's what I'm running on my LJ with no sag at all.
