Guys - putting together the plan for the buggy wiring. Anyone (Kurt - John) have the FSM on the bulkhead pinout for a 1993 XJ? I have everything from the engine compartment -> fuse box, ECM, everything up to the bulk head. After hooking up the + and - cables, is this going to be as simple as finding the correct pins on the connector and wiring in an ignition switch? I plan to use a generic off/run/start/acc ignition switch.
Here's another dillema: Been thinking about swapping the HO motor into Michaela's XJ. John, I know you run a manual now; does the ECM care if the motor is in front of an auto? I know there are two control modules (actually have a set of Renix spares), which actually makes me want to just keep the Renix in Micky's XJ (I have an entire spare set of sensors and intake manifold too).
Speaking of ECM's, does the 4.0L ECM really need input from the VSS to run correctly? John, what did you do for that? My research has been sketchy -> some say it's fine, some say it runs better with a VSS.
Thanks guys.

Joe,
My 1992 YJ didn't not like having the VSS disconnected. Backfired like a bastid
The best I could find was for a 94 XJ. The 93 FSM I have doesn't have the bulkhead connector pinout.
Here is the one I do have for the 1994 4.0 XJ.

Joe, give me a day or so to scan and post the '91 connector. Should be able to do it.
Michaela's XJ, you can use an auto computer on a stick engine, but not the other way around with the AW4. Can't remember if the H.O. used a separate controller for the trans with some signals off the computer or if it's all in the ECU. Your best bet would be to get a complete under hood harness for the H.O. auto and computer. Just an FYI, depending on the year Renix systems were rated up to 175 hp. The H.O. in the XJ is rated at 190. So unless her engine is really tired, it's not worth the hassle of swapping the electronics.
My Renix was equipped with cruise control, so I used the VSS that was mounted inline on the speedo cable under the dash. Your other option is to use a VSS for a '91 YJ but they're a bit of $$.

Re: XJ Renix / HO wiring ?'s
Thanks guys - sorry I didn't get back sooner. Just returned from an all day Cub Scout Leader training session.
As far as the buggy goes, I do have the entire engine compartment wiring harness and ECM. The T-case I'm using was out of a 93 or 94 YJ with the VSS still installed! All I need is the connector and I guess I'd have to run some wires back to the bulkhead pinout.
John - I'm just going to keep the 177HP Renix in Michaela's XJ and go with it. I actually have another one I need to install as the collant bottle exploded on the highway last year and I lost compression in cyl 3 (even after a head gasket change ). The new motor is a 73K mile with all new gaskets and valve seals. Stay tuned for a motor swap tech day at Joe's! The hard core way with no garage!johnsxj wrote:Joe, give me a day or so to scan and post the '91 connector. Should be able to do it.

Wow, kickin it old school! I did my first few engine swaps on the street.... with a come along, attached to a tree branch! I'll be looking for an invite to that partyZAEDOCK wrote: Stay tuned for a motor swap tech day at Joe's! The hard core way with no garage!
