Found out what's wrong with my OX!!!!
My OX locker had been acting up the past few runs I was on to the point where it would no longer engage
Went to take a look see and this is what I found................
What's missing in this picture
Oh, here's all those bolts
And what they did to the bearing cap
And the ring gear
AND the oil slinger on the pinion
I might be able to salvage the plate on the OX, and it's time to find a new set of 4.56 gears and a master install kit

Better to have found it now and not when it grenaded on the road or trail.

Will you be able to re-use the bearing caps?

Re: Found out what's wrong with my OX!!!!
Ordered a new R&P yesterday, did some scrounging in the garage and found I have enough new parts to make my own install kit (an XJ 30 and a TJ 44 use the same inner pinion bearing!)
The bearing caps will live with a little file work, and I think the end cap on the OX will live enough if I can get my hands on a spot mill to clean down the bolt pockets.

Wow - that was a disaster in the making. Aren't those bolts supposed to have red loctite on them?Baseshakers wrote:yikes! i saw this one time when i opened up my dif, glad i went in there when i did...

Yes, red locktite is the general "rule of thumb"...del_TJ wrote: Wow - that was a disaster in the making. Aren't those bolts supposed to have red loctite on them?

Re: Found out what's wrong with my OX!!!!
Nope, the cap bolts don't see the vibration and shock loading that ring gear bolts do.
