96 Xj ebrake cable

Unread post by Northshore Jeeper »

Since I swapped my rearend i have been trying to find an ebrake cable. I have a 96 xj sport, with a chrysler 8 1/4 rearend(out of a 98 xj). My rear disc brakes ( and all the hardware) came out of a 95 grand. I have tried all the ebrake cables (96 xj,98 xj, and 95 grand) and none of them will work. The closest i have gotten is the 2 rear cables out of the 95 grand. But they are a few inches to short. Does anyone out there know what vehical I can order the cable for that is similar to the 95 grands break cable but a little bit longer? Has anyone out there done a disk break upgrade on there xj and if so what ebrake cable did you use?

I did a similar swap a few years ago. I got a set of MORE (Mountian Off Road Enterprises) Ford 8.8 ebrake conversion cables for a YJ. These cables will connect the ZJ ebrake brackets with the XJ equalizer. The problem I have is the cables are a little too long and even with everything "tight" I don't get any stopping power from the brakes.

I have a ZJ equalizer bracket (the bracket which holds the cables from the handle and the two which go to the brake drums), which may be longer than the stock XJ one... If the ZJ braket it isn't longer I'm planning to cut one of the equalizer brackets and add ~2" of metal to "stretch" it out so that I can tension the cables.

My XJ is in storage, so I haven't been able to proceed with my plan yet.

Just use your original e-brake cables. Cut off half of the spring and loop the cable on to the arm. This is how I did it on my C8.25.

Crown carries disc brake conversion cables for the XJ.

DBC-05 is Left & Right for earlier XJ's

I just cut that lead thing off the end . Slid the spring off, cut to length , Used a throttle cable end to repair the cable, Ta da ! It looks like what you cut off but has a hole you put the cable through and tighten down a screw. Put two to make sure. (my tric) FjR68
