Blown rear end

Unread post by wannabee »

I'm looking for a used rear axle for my 97 TJ . It has 4:11gears with 27 stock axles. Lou at Elias reccomended trying to find a used axle, which I called five junk yards today with no luck. Did not try Car World yet got the # an will try them tomorrow.
Lou is pricing out everthing I need to put it back together stock if I have too. In that case I would be looking for someone willing to help me put it together. As I have not done it before and understand this maybe out of my scope.
But do want to learn how to fix this, as I can see this will not be the last time I will have to do this.

Tks,
Todd

i have a DANA-35 with 90k original miles. You would have to updgrade gears from the 3.07's. $100.00 and it is yours, PM me if interested.

There one listed on CL for 200 out in Adams, MA for $200...
A January listing but it's still posted.

You may want to also post up on the NEOW forum.
Lots of people with parts there too.

Tks, MNRyder I will keep that in mind. My alxes are ok, so I'm trying to avoid messing around with the gears , unless I have too. Kurt I will look into that axle in Adams to see if it's a TJ

Another forum -- Northeast Online Wheelers... They have a large / active set of For Sale / Wanted sections. Is trafficked by a lot of people so there is always stuff. If you post up in the wanted section there is likely someone who has something like what you're looking for...

What, exactly, is wrong with your existing axle assembly?

Axles are fine, Pin fell out of carrier and trashed ring & pinion carrier is also junk.
Talk to extremee yest. about his Dana 44s but they need fabrication?
Not sure what to do , really wanted to be working on this soon.

I found these, but they average around $500.00 and for that, you may as well have Lou install new gears and carrier and have a rebuilt unit.

BTW what size tires are you running? The cheapest route would be to locate a used D35 axle for the guts.

D35 with 4:10 gears $100

Pull the carrier, replace the bearings and your back up and running for under $200
