SYE

Spring is aproaching and I am now a member so I am trying to button up the unfinished project (my XJ) I will hopefully have the jeep "ready" (when is a project vehical ever "ready" or finished LOL) for go topless day I am adding another inch of lift (currently have 3.5 inches), installing an SYE and driveshaft, installing my adjustable track bar, rocker protection and ( hopefuly) bumpers.
I will be purchasing my SYE in the next week or 2 and was wondering what brand do you guys reccomend or what brands to stay away from? (same question aplies to the driveshaft)

They're about all the same. Just keep away from a SYE that requires you to cut, drill and tap your existing shaft.

Tom Wood's is probably the best in mail order driveshafts. I know there's companies local that do shafts, but can't think of any names.

great thanks! That was my next question Is it worth saving a few bucks and going with the "hack and tap SYE" (the sye that requires me to drill ,cut and tap my existing shaft

All the major vendors do a HD 32 spline output shaft w/ yoke, for the most part.

When John C wrecked the yoke at Rausch last year we learned the yokes have to be ordered from a special vendor (generally the guys who make the SYE kit). Advanced Adapters claims their kit was copied by everyone else and their design is the "original" (I'm not saying this it is/isn't true, just repeating what they said).

The big question is do you want a standard SYE or a "super short" SYE... The super short gets you more DS length and uses a tone ring to feed the speedo (not sure how the cost stack up works).

Doing it on an XJ he wouldn't need the super short kit.

One neat little trick if you have the wheelbase (an XJ does).... You can cut the mounting ears off a junked 1310 double cardian joint and use them as uber strong straps to run a lower cost non CV drive shaft with the SYE kit!!!!!! Been running that set-up for years and the yoke died before anything else.

I looked into this for a while before I pulled the trigger. After all the dust settled, I went with the Tom Woods solution. I have no experience with a hack n' tap but from what I read and what people told me, I decided to steer clear of it

I think you can't go wrong with JB or AA SYE kits. They both make great products. My AA adapter to mate the SM420 to my NP231HD is doing great.
