A TJ 44 rear is $$$$ Then you're cutting off all the coil stuff to weld leaf perches on :( A late CJ 44 is probably a couple inches narrower than the XJ, then you have to flip the perches and get adapter spacers to convert the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern to 5 on 4.5.
You can't bolt on experience!!!!!!

Go with an 8.8
You should be able to find one in the $200 - $400 range, another $125 for perches and shock mounts. Get Joe to weld them on for you (you'll probably have to buy some girl scout cookies) and you're all set.

That one has 3.73 gears, so it is probably a no-go for an XJ...

To make it cost effective you need an F8.8 which already has 3.55 gears from the factory (since almost all XJs have 3.55)... Other ratios in XJs are very uncommon.

I think it is probably easier / more cost effective to go with a bolt-in C8.25 now, which would be fine with a 31-33" tire, and get another axle if you want to go bigger in the long(er) term.

First I need an XJ... then we'll talk axles.

I'm only going to do a mild build, and maybe 32's so axle swaps are not tops on the list.

What is with you and 32's?
If you need a TSL 32 spare I have one, I'm still looking for a 33 non directional, but you can have your old 32 :P

I don't need a monsta rig to wheel. Besides, with a fixed roof rig I'd rather have a low COG.

C'mon, I've got 5.5" of lift and 35" skinny tires. My rig is quite stable on and off the pavement :o :o :o

Thanks Kurt! Looks like the 2door needs maint. and the other needs washer fluid. (no, I'm not deciding based on this info, was just curious.)
