Re: anyone tow with lifted Jeep?

I've got a small trailer on my jeep, going to move a bunch of stuff to my new apt. I've towed a trailer to northern Vermont, then back with a motorcycle in tow. Smaller lift and "much" smaller tires though. It shouldn't be a problem at slower speeds. As far as a drop hitch, I'm not sure. I...

Re: Painting TJ hard top

Back when I had my first TJ, I painted the top with Krylon Fusion. It's a spray paint designed for plastics. It seemed to be quite resilient. I'd plan for a couple/few coats as I was painting black over black. You'll need to bake sure to get a thick enough layer of black to cover the tan. Read the c...

Re: Project "La Mosca"

Very cool! I've often thought about picking up a cherokee as a DD and keeping it all stock.

What are you plans for this? Just fix, then maintain?

Mount Washington Auto Road

After getting a new front tire put on the motorcycle Saturday, I took a spur of the moment trip up to Mount Washington this past Sunday. The weather was spectacular and visibility was awesome! It was somewhere over 100 miles of visibility, and it was over 50 degrees with very little wind at the summ...

Re: Chasing Issues

It wont matter where you get the kit but before you by one decide if a garage is going to do it as they might not want to use your parts. Ask first is what Im saying. Timken bearings in the kit is all I would care about. FjR68 Kurt has graciously offered his expertise, garage and time. I just need ...

Re: Chasing Issues

Is the jeep a daily driver? Another option is to pick up a cheap used Dana 30 on craigslist and swap it in while you figure out what to do. Here's one for $25! Might give you more time and repair flexibility if needed. https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/pts/5215893165.html Its not a daily driver. It...

Re: Chasing Issues

I haven't done any work inside the differential and pinion before. According to Quadratec's replacement part diagrams, it looks like a shim set up. Does anyone have a preference where a R&P and Master setup kit can be purchased? I'm not looking for the cheapest, but I don't want to spend a ton. ...

Re: Chasing Issues

First off , there is a specific torque for the pinion nut. If your beyond that or below that it will destroy the bearing on the pinion. Which in turn will eat the ring gear , BOOM ! If the pinion is moving at all there is a problem. It warrants you to pull the cover , the carrier and the pinion. If...

Re: Chasing Issues

I pulled the front driveshaft to get a better idea what the pinion is up to. The pinion nut is still torqued down to a high torque. I couldn't get it any tighter or looser. I have play in all directions. Up, down, left, right, in out, slantways, etc. looks like a tear down will be in order. I spoke ...

Re: Chasing Issues

My garage is always available if you want to tackle any of the items on your list. ;) Thanks Kurt! My living arrangements are changing next month, and my roommate and I will have half a garage to use. I think they've got quite a few tools as well. The only thing that really really scares me on the ...

Re: Chasing Issues

It seems this will be my build thread as chasing issues is all I've been doing this year. The jeep passed inspection, but just. I've started a list of things I need to remedy, but the most pressing thing currently is the front diff pinion. Its got quite a bit of play in all directions, so the jeep i...

Re: Hello everyone! I'm Aaron

It's lookin good! Be mindful of your passenger front fender when wheeling. I apparently have a tendancy to "smoosh" mine into trees and with a stubby bumper, the first thing to hit is the fender.
