Re: Project "La Mosca"

Especially after you fixed the gasser look, that is a nice looking XJ.

Re: Clutch time

Do the whole thing with the clutch. If it's an AX15, and I'm sure it is, it's a good time to drain out ALL the oil and refill it with a decent "Yellow Metal Safe" oil like Redline or Royal Purple or any oil that is the right weight and also, "Yellow Metal Safe."

I have seen it in person, it is going to be a really cool XJ again. Nice work, John and good to see you again.

Re: ABS light after axle swap

If your alignment is out of whack, all your sensors are out of whack. Fix your known issues first and thn come back to this after if it is still there. JKs do not like bad alignments or uncorrected speedometers. Both of those things can put it in limp mode, activate nannies and all that happy horse ...

Re: Mr. Freekin White

It is either alignment or geometry in the steering hardware. For anyone with a JK that goes off road, I would always, 100% recommend a Synergy Suspension chromoly tie rod. If the lift kits were installed and then aligned to the specs from the mfg (usually around 5 - 6* caster) I would first lower th...

Re: Gearing

On a JK D30, I would want good shafts and a selectable locker, like an OX.
$2600 - a drop in the bucket.

Re: Gearing

4.88s will make your MPG better and cause less strain in the drive line. The RPMs will seem a little high at first when you're on the highway, cruising, but it will put the engine in the sweet spot for getting you around. The V6, especially the 3.6L, likes a little more RPM than Jeep wants it to hav...

Re: Mitchell Differential

Jeff, thanks for the reply. You called for a good reason, because you broke in the gears correctly. If a customer has a complaint it should be addressed. But at the end of the day, in your case with the break-in, it's a he said, she said. For business sake he should have took care of you. Ryan has ...

Re: Mitchell Differential

I'm thinking your not addressing my post because nothing you posted has anything to do with my question, but I figured I'd ask because I wasn't sure. I have had issues with them in a shop to shop setting and returned for re-work and spoken to them and sat in on conference calls with them about the ...

Re: RIP KERMIT

I would guess the t-case front case half is cracked and the front drive shaft is junk now, it always happens on those when the front axle is bent or the control arm is bent. Look for a crack anywhere around the front shaft out put. The case half is easily available through Chrysler for $400 and it t...

Re: It's never too early to panic... TJ frame 911

Unfortunately, the current frame is junk, having seen it. Used frames are also used frames, and it's like replacing a Dana 35... It will be temporary. The 97-02 frames are simply junk. (Remember when every used Old Cutlass from 78-86 had a rear bumper held on with ropes or replaced with a piece of w...

Re: some welding help needed 1/10/15 (also a few wrenchfests

I have a small project.
It's a stock Jeep and I just want to turn it into a daily driven, rock crawling, overland expedition project that gets 20+ mpg and makes 300 hp.
Should I bring it?

I work at Elias and people come here from all over the north east. You can read forums all you'd like, but do you want to listen to one person that has one, two or three Jeeps under their belt or listen to people that do all Jeeps, all day, week after week? You should not expect driving quirks after...

Re: Painting Process

The more gloss in your spray can, the better the paint works. I like it with a little less gloss, usually, but it is better when it sticks and seals better. The gloss keeps it cleaner, less friction. Rustoleum Industrial Grade spray paint is the best I've used. It costs more, but it also coats bette...

Re: Here it goes - TIRES, which ones?

Toyo Open Country M/T.
I get to play with a lot of tires and I've run several on my own.

Hands down, Toyo MT - a clear winner. 978 597 8432 if you have any questions on sizes, availability or whatever.
I have tons of videos and pictures of mine defying gravity and physics in all sorts of weather.
