The cheap tie downs sure don't work like a quality pair. I've had the ratchets bend and let go, and the straps tear dropping bikes both times. I've never had a problem with the quality ones, except for tearing anchors our of the, again 'cheap', trailer once. I only had to learn the do not cheap out ...
