Re: Rebuild Trac-lok

The hardest part is removing and re-installing the the big "S" spring to get to the clutch packs. You'll also have to pull the axle shafts out about 6" to clear the side gears which means pulling the tires and brakes.

Re: lunchbox locker?

X2 what Joe just said.

If you toss in a lunchbox locker, grab the gears that came out of the carrier, put them in a H.D. freezer bag then into your trail gear box!!!

Re: XJ longarm kit / suspension upgrade

On an XJ there's only so high you can go without cutting out the floor boards.
Rusty's higher clearance cross member doesn't raise the trans/t-case. Rather it's built out of heavier steel than stock so they can make it thinner to gain a little clearance.

Re: XJ longarm kit / suspension upgrade

TNT would be the better option on the long arm setups. As I recall, theirs have a bend in them to increase ground clearance on the arms behind the tires. All the other kits use a straight lower arm that will get dragged on more obstacles than a set of drop brackets would. I was real happy with the R...

Re: Hhappy Meadium

That's why you need to remove the shocks then compress one side of the axle while drooping out the other side. You can then measure the extended and compressed lengths you need the shocks to be.

And high 800's on a 20 degree ramp really ain't all that bad for a CJ5 :P

Re: Hhappy Meadium

You need to disconnect your shocks, flex the heck out of Mona, and break out the tape measure.
George still has the RTI trailer at his place. That would work perfect to flex things out.

First the obvious question..... Did you get the correct sending unit? They're offered for Jeeps with a gauge or with an "idiot" light. You did replace the correct sending unit didn't you? There's two; one on the thermostat housing for the computer, another on the head in the back by the va...
