Re: Wheel Bearing Install Trouble
I notched the old bearings and retainers with a cutting wheel then chiseled them off. Heating the new bearings in an oven is a good idea in hindsight, although they come packed full of grease. In the end, I brought it to Lou who said the journals on those Superior shafts are about 6/1000 too thick i...

Wheel Bearing Install Trouble
Round hole and round shaft, but it don’t fit! This is as far as a 12-ton press could get the bearings. Needs another half-inch and the retainer didn’t even get far enough to grab. Part numbers seem right (Superior axle shafts EV45, Timken bearings 053893730035), bearings are oriented correctly, both...

Wallowed out.
Well, I was excited to be almost done with my summer project - outboard shocks, coil correction, antirock, yada yada - when I had one of those SOB moments! The nut on a lower rear control arm bolt almost backed off unnoticed and wallowed out the bolt holes. Both sides are wallowed out but one side f...

Re: P0431 + Oil Pan/Pressure Guage
And, here's a rear main seal write-up that I've used before. It'll give you an idea of what's involved in removing and installing the oil pan. You can see from the pics that the rear main seal is inside of the rear bearing cap, so there's no way to harm it by only removing the pan. http://www.dailyd...

Re: P0431 + Oil Pan/Pressure Guage
I had the same issue with the low oil pressure reading at idle when the jeep was nice and warm, and it was due to an aftermarket pressure sensor. One remedy is to try to install an OEM sensor. You can also hook up a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure but I've never done it. I ended up upgrad...

Re: Frame welder in Medford area
Are you driving around without a rear control arm? Can you post a picture of the bad area? Safe T Cap in Rhode Island makes, sells, and installs great pre-fabbed frame repair pieces. Elia's 4WD can install it but they're an hour away from you. If there's an auto welder shop near you they should be a...

Re: I want bigger tires
I have a set of used, street friendly 32" tires I'm looking to sell. These tires are a hybrid AT / MT tire that do great on icy, snowy, wet or dry roads and great on the trail when it's dry, but start to slip when trails are gooey and wet, which is to be expected for that kind of tire… I got lo...

Re: Help picking onboard air system
Check out the Q industries MV89 dual piston compressor. As mentioned, the cable clips are cheap and break easily. I bought it for $100 a few years back, it's still running and fills a tire in a couple of minutes. It's not oil lubricated so a bit loud and once the internal parts wear it's toast. Anyw...

Re: Welder
I want to prep my axle for 35's and want to add gussets to it, but dont want to pay a shop $300+. There's a welding shop in Roxbury right off Mass Ave that can do it. The one time I tried to use them for something small they were on site at a job and returned my call the next day. http://welderswel...

I ordered a nutsert tool, nutserts and bolts from them when I swapped flares this summer. Good service and I would use them again.

Re: The Great Debate (ie, are you 'tired' of this yet)
I like the 34" Interco SSRs I bought in the spring. The good - they did well at Rausch, are surprisingly quiet for an aggressive tread and absorb bumps better than the set of pro comp AT 32s I still have. The bad - they humm a bit at highway speed but not too bad, dig in a little when turning, ...
